The County Commissioner is pleased to announce the Leadership Team who will be taking the Leicestershire Scout Patrols to the 24th World Scout Jamboree. The Jamboree will take place on 22nd July – 2nd August 2019 at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA and will be hosted jointly between Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada and the Scout Association of Mexico.

We received the largest number of applications for many years and on behalf of the County we would like to thank everyone who applied for one of the positions. We would also like to thank everyone who helped in the selection process either as part of the interview panel or providing references.

Now we have a Leadership team, we will shortly be commencing the recruitment of participants. But we thought you would like to meet the team who will be leading our young people across the pond in 2019.

Unit Leader – Jonny Kitching

jonny“I have been involved with scouting for most of my life, and to be given the opportunity to be a part of the 2019 Leicestershire Jamboree contingent is in amazing prospect, I believe all involved will have a fantastic experience with memories that will last forever.

To camp on a different continent amongst 45000 scouts from every nation across the globe will be a phenomenal adventure and I can’t wait to start the journey!! I am really looking forward to every aspect of the lead up to, and the Jamboree itself, and believe that the next 2 years will be a very special time for all involved!!”

“I am thrilled to be part of the leadership team from Leicestershire taking a group of young people to the WSJ. I’ve been to the site and it’s “Awesome” and offers the biggest and best activities.

The Jamboree is going to be amazing and I am excited that we all will have a true international adventure, opportunities to make new friends and have a life changing experience.”

Deputy Unit Leader – James Waterworth

james“I’m so excited to be going to the 24th World Scout Jamboree. It was an absolute privilege to help represent Leicestershire Scouts in Japan two years ago, as well as a huge learning experience which I will to put to good to use this time.

The whole jamboree experience can really help shape a young person’s life and character so I’m most looking forward to seeing the differences in everyone from the unit from start to finish.”

Assistant Unit Leader – Lynsey Waters

Lynsey“Having been in Scouting since I was tiny, I’ve loved every opportunity it has offered and the WSJ is not going to be any different! I’m so excited to be embarking on the international adventure that is WSJ 2019. I’m looking forward to the build-up and preparation where working as part of a team we can make sure that everyone has the experience of a lifetime.

I’m looking forward to encountering Scouts from across the globe within the magic bubble that is a World Scout Jamboree and making friends for life. Ultimately I’m proud to be taking a group of Scouts and Explorers from Leicestershire to the USA and ensuring that they have the most incredible experience!”

Assistant Unit Leader – Sarah Young

sarah“Being chosen to take our Scouts to the World Jamboree in America in 2019 is an incredible honour, of which I’m dead proud.

I’m really looking forward to the whole experience: not just the trip itself, but making it happen with all the preparation, shaping and fundraising work with the other leaders and the Scouts themselves.”

Assistant Unit Leader – Lucy Sparling

lucy“I am delighted to be part of the leadership team for the Leicestershire Contingent for the World Scout Jamboree 2019, USA. I attended the 22nd Jamboree in Sweden back in 2011 as a participant. It was and, still is the best Scouting experience I have had.

I am excited to start the journey to the Jamboree and share this amazing international adventure with scouts from our county as well as with leaders and young people who attend from all over the world!”
