Calling All Young Leaders

My name is Rosie Austin. I am a Postgraduate Researcher at Loughborough University and a Scout based in Birmingham. I am getting in touch with you in your Scout role, as I am currently carrying out a project that involves the Young Leaders Scheme. The Scout Association are aware of this research project and it is jointly funded by Loughborough University and the Eric Frank Trust, a charity who fund projects into leadership and Scouting. You can find out more information about the project and a link to the survey here.

The purpose of the study is explore how young people understand and engage with youth leadership. A main aim of this project is to give a real voice to young people, helping them shape the future of leadership understandings. I am using the Young Leaders Scheme as a case study for this and am hoping for as many Young Leaders as possible to complete a short online survey (15-20 minutes). It would be great to be able to get the Young Leaders in your area involved. For their time, each participant will be entered into a £25 Amazon voucher draw. The survey will close on the 30th November.

It is a great way of getting young people to think about their own leadership journey and how they understand the concept of being a leader. The results will be used in academic publications and key findings will be shared to help others better understand how young people think about leadership. I will be more than happy to share a copy of the final report with you and any young people- all responses to questionnaires will be anonymised when written up for publication.

It would be great if you could get involved by distributing the following link (https://lboro.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/leadership) to the Young Leaders in your area. I have also attached a virtual leaflet, that may be easier/better to share. Alternatively if there is somebody other than yourself that works closely with Young Leaders such as an Assistant Commissioner or somebody that is in your team that you feel would be more appropriate to talk to then I would be very grateful if you could pass this message on, or provide me with their contact details.

If you have any questions please do get in touch, it would be great to hear from you.

Best Wishes,

Rosie
