District Commissioner for North East District

We are now in  process of putting a Search Group together to  help us find North East’s next District Commissioner – and the search starts today!

The County Commissioner as asked Steve Dowell  to Chair the Search Group  and over the next couple of weeks, this group will be put together with adults and young people from across the District. If you would like to part of this group – then please let me know.

Full information about the role, nomination / application forms is downloadable.

These forms can be used to nominate others or self-nominate, between now and 26th March 2021

This is an important role, and a key one within the Leadership team of Leicestershire  Scouts; which is very rewarding and when shaped right, can be a huge amount of fun too!

The role of District Commissioner is a very exciting and rewarding one. In the role, you have a great opportunity to support and develop Scouting across North East  District, as the lead volunteer for the District. It’s an opportunity to put existing skills and experience to great use, with an incredible impact, and to develop new skills and experience that can be useful elsewhere in life.

The search will run until 26th March2021 and we would encourage everyone to engage in the process

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact myself

Best wishes,

Steve Dowell

Deputy County Commissioner

Thank Two

We’ve all been through a lot, this past year. Our volunteers have done a wonderful job keeping Scouts going, while managing their own challenging personal circumstances. It’s been truly inspiring to see how you’ve managed to keep supporting young people at a time when it’s been needed most.

We think you’re all amazing and deserve a massive thank you.

From next Monday (22 February), we want everyone to join us to #ThankTwo people and/or groups of people who’ve gone above and beyond over the past year, from Scouts volunteers to local community heroes. We’re asking young people to design a #ThankTwo poster to display in their windows to highlight their two people or groups of people, and we’re asking adult volunteers to tag the two people or groups of people on social media and shout about them using the hashtag #ThankTwo.

Mucky March

We’re really excited to announce our County Litter Picking Project, which will be open to all Sections over the next few months. We know that some Sections and Groups are not currently able to meet regularly online, and hope that this is something your Young People can get involved in without regular leader input – or alternatively, can provide some inspiration for your next Zoom meetings!

We’re aiming to help clean up Leicestershire by taking action, picking up litter and raising awareness of the issues litter creates. At the same time, we’ll be working towards Community Impact badges, as well as many other badges and the top awards for all Sections. We’ll be releasing loads more resources over the next few weeks to get involved with.

Follow Mucky March – Leicestershire Scouts

on Facebook for all of the details and updates, as well as to post pictures of what you’ve been up to on this project.

First though, we need a badge! Ask your young people to enter their badge design on the above page by Friday 5th February – full details on the attachments.

Looking forward to seeing their entries and to Leicestershire Scouts making a positive impact, on our local environment in 2021. Remember, we understand that some are unable to commit much, if any time to scouting at the present time, but we hope this will provide some support and inspiration to all those who are able to make use of it!

Christmas Message

Christmas Message 5

2020

Well! what can we say …

It has been interesting!!

A year of change, challenge, but also, one for reflection.

I for one, have spent so much time at my actual home and not the second home of County HQ.

I can get in the car and it does not tell me its 18 mins to LE3 and the traffic is light, the marriage has survived, we’ve not spent this much time together for nearly 20 years!!

The miles I have travelled have been minimal.

The hours in front of a screen rapidly increased, a fair trade off? I think so especially for meetings.

But how I have missed seeing everyone, the great ideas, planning our camps and events, that time just to touch base with people over a coffee and a biscuit.

We got a new Puppy, an excuse to get us back out, into the great outdoors.

You do not realise how much you miss exploring each corner of the County, until the leader says it out of bounds!!

But to offset this, we have found so many local gems – hike planning will be a doddle.

There has been little smell of campfires on clothes but with my four-legged friends, we certainly have continued the theme of mud Glorious mud! seemingly a daily basis recently.

I know everyone’s experience of 2020 will have been very different, but I am sure you will have all found your own way to fill the void of our hobby being putting on hold/changed.

But through it all, Scouting has survived, new skills learnt, and the ethos of Scouting being a movement has been realised.

I will take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in Scouting in Leicestershire.

Wish you all a very Merry Christmas, along with fingers very tightly crossed for a safe, face to face New Year
