Adult Training

What is Adult Training ?

Adult volunteers are at the heart of Scouting, and we hope that you will get every bit as much out of it as you put in. Scouting is not only about young people, but also about the development of adults within the Movement.

Scouting is not only about young people, but also about the development of our adults in Leicestershire. This happens as we scout and through training. Don’t think of it as daunting, Scouting is about teamwork and we’re there to support you every step of the way. This is your adventure.

To support adults in Scouting, the Association provides a comprehensive programme of training to build on existing skills and knowledge and develop new competencies. The primary aim of the training is to provide adults with the skills necessary for them to deliver and / or support the Programme for our youth members.

  Specifically, it is intended to

  • Help people understand Scouting and their role within it
  • Give them the skills necessary to carry out that role
  • Improve the quality and quantity of Scouting delivered
  • Support adults in meeting their own and their colleagues development needs

The training scheme, delivered through a framework of Modules, is personalised, flexible and about learning by doing. Its focus is on developing adults to be active and effective as leaders, managers and supporters.

Training Modules can be completed in some cases by e-learning, video or workbooks. They can also be delivered by a member of the County Training Team at a Course. These are held throughout the year at a number of locations across the County.  On occasion, it may be possible to undertake training in a small group or even one to one. These too will be delivered by a member of the County Training Team.

Manager & Supporter Training includes courses that are delivered on a Regional basis and can be booked here

Details of all current Courses in Leicestershire are available from The Training Calendar.

Adult Training is modular and flexible, concentrating on learning rather than just attending courses or completing e-learning. The scheme that takes into account what you already know and can demonstrate.

Training is not just the learning element. We believe that it is important to be able to apply the skills and knowledge within your Scouting role. For this reason, the second part of training is validation. More details about training, what this looks like and how it can be completed and validated can be found here.

Supporting your training will be an allocated Training Adviser. Their role is to provide guidance, answer questions and complete the validation of your learning.

Finally, if, after looking through the pages you still have a question, please contact your Local Training Manager.
