Who we are?
Leicestershire Scouts Sailing Team are able to offer Sailing sessions for Explorers, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides and Brownies.
What we do?
A typical session includes a safety briefing and a brief introduction into the controls of the boat. Then the group will go out in the boats to have fun and learn how to handle the boat. Some may be taken out by one of our Scout qualified instructors. So if you want to have a session for your group contact scoutsailing123@hotmail.com
Group bookings are available on Saturday Mornings, 1000 – 1230, and Saturday afternoons 1330 – 1600, cost £15 per person with a non-refundable deposit of £150 and a minimum charge of £150 per session, min 10, max 24 people per session. Beavers and Brownies; we can only accommodate 12 per session for safety reasons. Sailing runs from March until the end of October.
If smaller groups find it easier you can of course share a session with another section of your group, or another troop, Scouts and Cubs, or any mixture of your groups can be accommodated to make the numbers up to the maximum of 24, apart from Beavers and Brownies.
We also run courses to enable you to achieve RYA qualifications and these can be used towards Chief Scout Awards and Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes. We also support County events such as Cub Camp, Splash Camp and Charnwood!
What will your Scout need?
You should come in your normal clothes (not jeans) and bring with you:
- At least one; preferably two, complete changes of warm clothing, including underwear.
- Waterproof coat and trousers.
- An old pair of shoes (not wellies or walking boots) i.e. plimsolls or old trainers.
- A towel, preferably two.
A buoyancy aid will be provided.
Our Location
The Sailing Team meet at Burton Reservoir, Repton Road, Ticknall, DE65 6FD.
Open Sailing
Takes place on Saturday, beginning in June through to October.
The morning session runs from 1000 till 1230 and the afternoon 1330 till 1600.
If you have an RYA Qualification, you can drop in for a morning or afternoon of Sailing without your Leaders, you just need your parent/guardian’s consent.

Badges
The Sailing Team will have Blanket Badges for sale for those that take part in the activity at an extra cost of £2 per badge. Please ask for further details.
